Welcome to The Invisible Thread!

I’m Addie Broyles, and I’m a writer, editor, and future ancestor.

The Invisible Thread is a weekly publication about the things that connect us that we cannot see: love, loss, curiosity, connection, belonging, imagination.

For many years, I was a food columnist for the Austin American-Statesman, where I wrote about recipes, food products and food trends and used those subjects to tell deeper stories about people and families in Central Texas.

In 2010, I started a side writing project called The Feminist Kitchen, where I wrote about old quilts and getting older, traveling with my kids and visiting with my elders. And birthday cake.

In 2021, I left the newspaper and moved my column to a Substack newsletter, where I’ve continued to publish weekly for more than three years.

I added a print zine that comes out twice a year and is a benefit for paid subscribers, and in 2024, this project became known as The Invisible Thread.

By supporting The Invisible Thread with a paid subscription, you’ll get fresh essays, columns and stories from me each week, delivered straight to your inbox.

Click here if you want to learn more about me and my work.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’ll enjoy the visit.
